Incorrect Billing & No Access to Customer Support
I am extremely dissatisfied with the service received from Vodacom. My monthly WiFi subscription is R542.90 (following the annual increase), which is clearly reflected on both my bill and online account. However, I was debited R643.78 without any prior communication or explanation for the additional charges. I have not exceeded my usage, added any services, or missed any payments. Despite this, I was unable to resolve the issue as Vodacom’s call centre is inaccessible and only redirects to the TOBi chatbot, which is not helpful for billing queries. Due to the lack of proper customer support and the unexplained charge, I had no choice but to dispute the debit order with my bank. This is unacceptable. Customers should not be overcharged and then denied access to a consultant for assistance. I request: A full itemised bill explaining the additional charges Immediate correction of the billing discrepancy Confirmation that my account will not be negatively affected I expect this matter to be resolved urgently.
I was charged R643.43 on 26 March 2026, which included a R100.88 penalty fee, allegedly due to a failed payment.
According to the consultant from the eService team, Yolanda Duma, this fee was app**** because a debit attempt was unsuccessful. However, this explanation is misleading:
I have not missed the payment, mandate on my banking app and my debit date has always been the last day of the month.
I did not authorize any early debit on 26 March.
The monthly SMS I receive on my router (mid-month) already reflected the billed amount, which contradicts this explanation.
While I understand that Vodacom may charge a penalty for failed debits, in this case the debit attempt itself was incorrect, making the fee unjustified.
This situation gives the impression that Vodacom does not have a clear understanding of the cause of this charge.
In terms of the Consumer Protection Act and PASA debit order rules, any changes to debit dates require prior notification and/or authorization. No such notice was given in my case, making the debit and subsequent penalty fee unfair and disputable.
