Improperly debited after phone contract cancelation
I've never before experienced such poor service, negligence, incompetence, and overall disregard for customer rights in my life. I have tried to cancel my vodacom contract, and have followed all consumer protection act and vodacom guidelines in order to do so.
I called their cancellations department on *** multiple times and always received different answers. My contract was due to expire on November 1st, 2024. I first called vodacom on September 23rd, 2024, notifying them I would not like to renew my contract and so I'd like to cancel it at the specified end date. However, I was told, "it's too early to cancel my contract and if you try cancel now you have to pay an early cancelation fee. You should call back next month to cancel without any fee." I proceeded to call back on October 3rd, 2024, and I spent 20 minutes on the call trying to get my contract canceled. They continually told me it's not possible to cancel the contract without paying any fee. Eventually they told me I can cancel my contract and it won't renew, however I will have to be charged for the month of November. They also informed me that the call is being recorded for quality assurance purposes, and made me say I understand that I will be charged for the month of November if I cancel my contract. Before answering their question I made sure to clarify that November would be the last month I would have to pay, and thereafter I would not be debited again and my contract would be canceled and converted to prepaid. They indeed confirmed November would be the last month I would be billed (These conversations have been recorded by them and me). They proceeded to process my contract cancelation, explicitly told me my contract cancelation had been processed, and my number would be converted to prepaid, and I also received an email and message in the app to confirm it had been canceled and it would be converted to prepaid on the last day of November. On the last day of November I received a follow up email confirming my number has been converted to prepaid. But guess what, on December 2nd I was debited by vodacom once again.
I have tried to contact the cancellations department again to find out why I am still being debited, but when I input my number, the answering machine states they are unable to assist prepaid users. So it seems my number has indeed been converted to prepaid, however I am still being debited from Vodacom. I have no idea what to do, and I don't understand why it is so difficult to just cancel my service correctly like other businesses do. If I don't receive assistance with this matter, and the amount improperly debited from my account returned within a week, I will be filling with the small claims court against vodacom.
