Impossible to cancel contract

I have recently emigrated to Australia due to work. Before I left, I went into a Vodacom branch multiple times and spent many hours on hold with the call centre in order to cancel my contract early, and have my number ported to prepaid, so that I can still use it when I'm home on holiday, and when I move back home.

After all the frustration, I was finally told that my contract had been cancelled, I paid the early cancellation fee and thought that all was done. Sadly, it was not, I have still been charged monthly since then.

I have tried numerous times since then to follow up on why the cancellation never took place, it's hard to achieve with the time zone difference. I paid the total amount owing on for early cancellation on the 23rd of June, once I had noticed that I was still being charged, I tried to initiate a chat via the Vodacom website, which kept getting disconnected. I was then called on my South African number, which is on roaming, about the problem with the webchat. I told her the story and was told to email a copy of my ID, the cancellation form as well as a copy of the payment to ********** which I then did.

I have not gotten any formal response from them, apart from an automated response saying that it's been received. I have now taken to flooding the email address daily with emails until this problem is sorted. As I have cancelled my contract, and paid the total amount owing in full, I am fairly certain that it breaches the Consumer Protection Act, and it leaves me with few options, either put a stop order on my debit order which will then escalate my account to the Vodacom legal department, or hope that my multitude of emails might do the trick.

It's sad to see the day that Telkom provides better service than Vodacom, what a disappointed from a company that I have been loyal to since 1998.

Reviewer Update

Good day Vodacom Consumer Website Team,

I thought that I had finally cancelled Vodacom once and for all, the last communications that I had with someone was on the 15th of September 2016. Once more, I have received a debit order off of my South African bank account on the 1st of December.

How can a company continue to operate with customer service that could be likened to being chained to a wall, it's impossible to get away.

I would gladly accept help to finalise this issue.
