******* subscription charges by third party on cell phone account allowed by Vodacom
During July I notice an unknown charge on my cell phone bill that read content services. I went to my local Vodacom shop to find out what this charge was. The guy at the Vodacom shop told me that this was for some subscription that I subscribed to. I denied this as I have not subscribed to anything and have not received any downloads or services from any so-called subscription. He then told me this is malware and that he can only unsubscribed me but if I want more information about the subscription and my money back I had to contact the Vodacom accounts department through the call centre. I contacted the dreaded call centre only to speak to a very unhelpful women that could not answer any of my questions and just said I must contact WASPA myself without explaining to me what or who WASPA was. Not happy with the service I received from her I asked to speak to a manger and spoke to another women that gave me the same service. I could see that I was not going to get any further help from the two ladies and decided to contact the so-called WASPA, where I spoke to a very abrupt guy that told me I must email them all the information and they will investigate it. I send them an email with three specific questions, namely 1- How would I be refunded for the money I lost, 2- Who, what, how and where did I subscribed to this unknown subscription and lastly 3- How can Vodacom allow a third party to add cost onto my cell phone account. More than a week later I receive a reply from WASPS saying that they have unsubscribed me and according to them my request had been resolved and if I am not happy I can contact their team. Obviously I was not happy as none of my questions were answered and as I had told them I was unsubscribed the first day I went to Vodacom. I emailed them back and had no response from them since. I then contacted ICASA and got following response. Your complaint is beyond our jurisdiction and you are advised to contact National Consumer Commission. Weighing up all the time, evert and extra cost to get answers and to recover the R254.62 I had lost, I concluded it was not worthwhile and as I am now unsubscribed it wont occur again. But then again this month there is a content service fee of R35.12 on my cell phone bill. I have not been asked to confirm any subscription, to supply any pin or password or received any alert message that I was now subscribed to any site or service. How is it possible that Vodacom can allow a third party to add charges to my account without my authority?
