Ill-treatment by Vodacom Mosselbay unacceptable

My husband sent his relatively new (Samsung S6) phone in for repairs as same would not function properly or start. He was advised today that same is ready for collection. The phone was sent to Mosselbay and my husband called the Mosselbay repair centre to have the phone sent to Riversdal instead (we live on a farm outside of Riversdal). The Vodacom employee advised him that the phone was not repaired since the 'motherboard' was damaged and that he would have to pay in excess of R4000 to have the phone repaired. When queried, the Vodacom employee explained that the screen of the phone must also be repaired.

My husband queried this again since his screen was not damaged and is furthermore, still subject to a 12 month guarantee. The Vodacom employee merely stated that "sorry, that's how it works". The conversation got heated when my husband asked that this be exlpained to him, whereafter the Vodacom employee told my husband that he "is not his child" and thereafter disconnected the line.

My husband called Vodacom back again and asked to speak to this employee again after having been intentionally cut off. He asked whether Vodacom is at all interested in assisting him by explaining to him why he needs to pay so much and pay for repairs of something that's not broken and furthermore under guarantee. The employee then said that my husband would now only need to pay in excess of R2000. When queried, he said that it is him helping my husband.

My husband asked that an invoice be sent to him, setting out exactly what the cost of repairs entailed since he did not find the employee's sudden offer to help him to be credible (and it is very unlikely for an employee to help a client with a discount of more than R2000 for no reason).

The employee said he will explain the invoice over the telephone and when my husband said no, he wanted same to be emailed to him, the employee smugly asked whether my husband needed to see it in black in white (whereafter my husband responded with "of course" he needs to see it before he will pay same).

My husband is not upset about the 'motherboard' having been damaged and him needing to pay for repairs thereof but he is indeed very upset about the way he was treated by Vodacom today when he asked that Vodacom clarify why he needs to pay for an undamaged, guaranteed screen to be repaired. Naturally he is also very upset about being deliberately cut off by Vodacom. When he informed me of this incident, he said that this was the last straw for him and that he will not think twice about not renewing his contract upon the expiry of his current contract.

This is unacceptable, Vodacom.
