Yesterday I got a call from someone that has the same initials as my own. He asks me if I recently took out a contract with Vodacom. I confirm this as earlier I got a call asking about the quality of service I received. At that point I was very happy with the service. But then the agent informed me that he noticed I had opted for insurance which was not activated. Now I had opted for this when I got my new phone and filled out the paperwork for it. Had something happened between now and then I would have lost everything… The agent said he would activate the insurance for me and send me an email with all the documents. I should mention that I did indeed give my correct email address (full name and surname, no numbers) the day I got my phone in the store. Now, the guy sharing my initials is telling me he got an email for my phone contract… It has HIS ID number and HIS residential address (different providence) on the forms. Sent to HIS email address which is different to mine. This is shocking service from one of our biggest mobile providers. Surely they should have noticed the difference between male and female and the difference in years! Do they simply type in the initials and then pick a random name on a list that looks similar and send documents ? This is highly sensitive information they have access to and then still manage to get it wrong!
