I was **** to when signing up for my data contract

I signed up for a 10GB data contract at the Vodacom shop in Eastgate, about 6 months ago. When I signed up, I asked the representative if I could upgrade or sign up for a phone contract later on. They said "sure, no problem". My phone was ****** about a month ago, and I wanted to sign up for a contract for a new iPhone. I was told when I went to the same shop, that I couldn't sign up for the contract on my current number because I already had a data contract in place. I could only sign up for a contract on a new number. This is pointless because I use one number for calls and data, and I don't want to switch to a new number. I don't want to cancel my current data contract and get charged huge penalties or loose my current number, I run my business from that number. Why can't I sign up for a new contract on my current number, it seems really stupid to me, and bad for business for you. Why did the representatiive lie to me about upgrading or adding new contracts? I would've never signed up for the data contract in the first place if I knew I couldn't add a phone contract later on.
