I'm the idiot

Dear Vodacom,

Let me start by providing you with context so you understand the full extent of my gripe. I've been a vodacom subscriber for 17 years now (not that it matters to you) and in the 17 years I've owned about 5 different HTC phone models and to add to that, I've used the Wi-Fi hot-spot tethering functionality ever since it was available as an option and as a result I've bought a considerable amount of data so much so I have a pretty good understanding of consumption rate when tethering. In saying all of the above, please do not talk to me as if I'm an idiot who doesn't understand how data works or how my phone works.

Beginning of this month (June) I bought 5 gigs of data, used it accordingly over several days and I understand why it only lasted a couple of days because of what I had linked to the hot-spot (Xbox update-3.4gigs). Yesterday I bought a gig of data which literally ran out in 10min, I called your customer service and got treated like I'm an idiot who doesn't understand technology.

I then bought another gig of data and within 5 min of tethering to laptop, which I've done a million times as this is how I work/make money, I was down to 200mb. I'm not sure what kind of insane up and down speed my phone is performing at but clearly it's the fastest router (800mb in 5 min), even when I've watched videos on my laptop tethering from my phone, I've never seen data consumption that quick.

Your customer service concluded that whatever I was connecting to the Wi-Fi (my laptop) consumed all the data through updates, seriously??? A laptop is not like a phone, programs on laptops don't rub updates like phones do and you get a notification first before any update (which didn't happen) and lastly, when I used a friend phone to connect (friend is on mtn) his data didn't disappear like mine did, did 30 minutes of work on 250mb and he still had more than 100mb remaining.

So clearly I'm the I'm the idiot here who doesn't understand technology and data charges. If there was a better alternative in South Africa, I would take it but there isn't and you guys are the best of the worst (not something to be proud of). I'm in the relationship under duress, right now I can't do my work, which is my livelihood and simply put I HATE vodacom for putting me through this.
