How difficult is it to cancel a contract?

I have been trying ( very unsuccessfully I must add) to cancel a contract. I’m within my rights as the contact expired end March 2020. After many unsuccessful attempts to contact the call centre I eventually got through... only to be sent from pillar to post. After an hour of answering the security questions and being told I’m speaking to the wrong person I eventually spoke to a consultant who could assist me. However, he told me that I was probably mistaken and that he had to first verify that I could indeed cancel my contract. Him and his manager (a person by the name of Brian) told me ‘they were there for me’ and promised to contact me as soon as they have verified the information. I’m still waiting... All my subsequent attempts to contact the call centre have been unsuccessful as the calls miraculously get cut off the minute you select the option to cancel a contract and the call back option also doesn’t appear to be working? Out of sheer desperation I risked my health as well as the health of a sales consultant and went to a store to try and cancel the contract. The very helpful consultant assisted me in getting connected to the call centre. Surprise surprise, the minute I mentioned the word ‘cancel’ the consultant could apparently not hear me any more. We tried again... I went through all the security questions again... and this time the consultant could hear my request. However, he spent the next 10-15 minutes trying to sell me a new contract instead of listening to my request. He eventually agreed to cancel the contract and I requested an email verification. By this afternoon, after having no SMS or email verification I called the store. Based on the information on the system my request has apparently not been executed. Having been a loyal Vodacom customer for 20 years I find this situation untenable. If indeed my request was not executed it is dishonest and ********* and reflects poorly on your brand. I demand to be treated like a loyal customer and for a company like Vodacom to respect my request.
