Highly unprofessional service from Vodacom Howard Centre

On the 25th of June, I went into the store to open a contract. While I was filling in the form, the sales assistants, were continually and loudly gossiping about one of their co-workers, showing absolutely no professionalism around the customers.

I was then moved to another section of the store, when a customer entered and began complaining about the service that he experienced. As he was discussing his dissatisfaction with another assistant, the person assisting me began singing in front of me, as if to drown out the customer's voice, making no attempt to diffuse the situation.

My application form, copy of my ID and three months' bank statement was then taken and kept. I was then told that I would be contacted later that day, or Monday for the latest, as it was Saturday and the shop closed at 3pm. Despite the terrible show of professionalism, I was confident that I would receive word soon.

On Monday 27th of June, I still had no contact from the Vodacom shop and went in around 5:40pm. I was told that my contract was approved, but they were trying to lift my credit. This wasn't really explained except to say that I would be contacted soon.

Throughout the course of the week, I attempted to call at least five times a day and only got through twice. Every other time, the phone just rang.

On Friday, I finally got through and, due to the lack of support and communication, told them that I would like to continue the process at the Vodacom store at the Waterfront. I was told "Go ahead" and not informed that this would be difficult, since it was a different Vodacom chain (Cellucity).

When I went in to the Howard Centre branch on Saturday, 2nd of July, I was told that they still had not been able to lift my credit and to come back within an hour. I did that and was then told that unfortunately, I would not be able to get a phone. The blame was shifted to "problems on their side" and I should try a different service provider. No apology was made for wasting my time over the course of a week.

When I asked for my bank statement, that they kept when I first app****, I was told by Stephanie, that she couldn't find it and they "must have chucked it." This was after she spent a minute or so looking for it, which implies that there is no specific system when filing customer details.

This is personal, CONFIDENTIAL information, that I handed over under the assumption that it would be protected.

I am extremely dissatisfied with the service received. Moreover, I'm concerned about my personal information and the fact that no action was taken to protect my privacy.
