Handed over to debt collector without any knowledge of contract or prior contact by Vodacom
I am writing on behalf of my husband. To his complete shock, he received a received a letter from Norman Bissett & Associates yesterday, alleging that he owes an amount of R 1119.99 to Vodacom (or Autopage) for an Account: 3H1. ********** 0, which he did not know existed. He has not had any correspondence with Vodacom prior to being handed over to debt collectors. He made numerous, frustrating, attempts to resolve this matter with Autopage in 2016 (written proof of which will be made available). The story goes as follows: My husband took out two Autopage contracts in 2014. Unbeknown to him, Autopage closed down and they transferred the contracts to Vodacom (Vodacom Smart S ********** 688) and Glocell ( Cell C Smart ********** 854, Ref: ********** ********** ). In 2016 contacted a representative of Autopage and instructed that these contracts be CANCELLED. He was sent a cancellation form, which he completed and submitted. In applying for a bond, the bank pulled up an Experian Credit report stating that he pay Autopage R876 p.m. on contract number 1A ********** 0. But this account did not exist! I emailed Autopage three times on their website to have this account removed but to no avail (Ref: ********** and ********** ). Then I realized that they were no longer dealing with no longer responding to customer complaints directly. My husband then contacted both Vodacom and Glocell to assist, but the problem is that the Account numbers and installment amounts for the accounts that they had on record DID NOT CORRESPOND WITH WHAT IS LISTED ON EXPERIAN. Neither Vodacom or Cell C could assist with removing it since it is listed as an Autopage contract. Only Autopage could remove it. But there blatant disregard for our requests by the consultants that we have dealt with. This matter was supposedly been send to the Autopage legal department in 2016 but we have had no response from them. I then made a complaint directed at Autopage via the Hellopeter hoping to get the attention of the right person.. It was only then that I got a response stating that a query had been escalated and was now being handled by Glocell (no mention was made of Vodacom in response to the complaint). However, no action was forthcoming to remove the account. As a result, my husband lodged a dispute with Experian in June 2016. Experian reviewed the matter and REMOVED the Autopage contract in it entirety from his credit record (email proof of this can be forwarded). The only other Vodacom Account No: ********** 4-8 listed on Experian was also settled and removed in 2016 (We have written proof of this). An updated Experian Report was sent to us which stated "ACCOUNT CLOSED" for every listed Vodacom Account. This was generated in 2016 already and my husband did not take out any further contracts with Vodacom since then. I need to stress that my husband did not receive any communication about an existing Vodacom contract in over 2 years. Now suddenly, he is being handed over and strong armed by debt collector. Normally, when a client has a contract with a company, they would receive monthly statements to inform them of the status of their contracts and the balance due so that that can pay the account before interest in added. If in fact a Vodacom contract exists in my husbands name, where is Vodacom's accountability for their lack of communication/lack of written statements on over 2 years? Where is their fair procedure? I will leave MY HUSBAND'S ID number below TO USE AS A REFERENCE. But I will leave my phone number as I am handling this matter as his legal representative. I have forwarded the Experian report, cancellation forms etc to Norman Bissett & Associates already. We need to resolve this issue once and for all. I'm sure that you can understand my frustration and why I am appalled at Vodacom's treatment of their customers. I think the public needs to made aware of how careful they have to be when taking out contracts with Vodacom. This might be them in the future. Dr Chetty,, Attorney of the High Court.
