GROSS BREACH OF CONTRACT

I saw a special advertised in a Vodacom pamphlet in a Vodashop in Nelspruit (The Grove). It so happened that I was due for an upgrade and after talking to one of the sale persons in shop I indicated I would like to upgrade to that specific package. The package was for a Huawei P10 (Smart M+) and a P8 Lite (uChoose Flexi 55), advertised for R549 per month (applicable to new contracts only).

The salesman pointed this out but after he searched their database he told me he found a similar deal which he could offer me and added that it was even a little cheaper (R479) monthly. This fitted in 100% with my budget and I told him to go ahead with the upgrade. The next day I fetch the cell phones and signed the contract.

That evening I wanted to activate the Huawei P10 but my sim card would not fit. I went back to the Vodashop the next day and had to buy a smaller sim card for R150. Later that day the salesman called me and said he couldn't activate the contact as he was not supposed to give me an option to upgrade to that specific contact as it was just for new customers. What is the difference? My 24 month period has expired already. Do I have to first tell them to cancel my current contract with them and then treat the new contact as “new”? This seems stupid to me. This was not displayed anywhere neither was I told about this beforehand. I told him that I have already signed a contract with Vodacom and they need to honour it.

The next day I received an e-mail from Vodacom with an "Upgrade Quotation" indicating that the monthly instalment will be R618.50. When I logged into the "My Vodacom App" I saw they had already loaded my account with the new amount, totally ignoring the contact I have in place with them. This means they will debit my account with R618.50 monthly regardless of the contact we have in place for R479.

Firstly, how can this be legal?

Secondly, how does Vodacom reward new customers with very good deals and their loyal customers who have been with them for many years are being charged more?

Reviewer Update

10 days later and no one has contacted me from Vodacom yet.

Obviously they only reply to these reviews to show the public they are "commited", but they did not contact me as stated in their reply.

Absolutely substandard service!!
