Greedy, Profit Maximisers

My phone was recently ******. Yes I don't have insurance on it, and it's only 8 months old, so I understand that I need to honour the duration of the contract (16 months left).

What I don't understand is why Vodacom won't split the contract into an airtime portion and a phone portion, and let me pay for just the phone portion over the remainder of the contract , as I don't want or need the R350 airtime that forms part of my monthly amount (I'm already getting airtime on the new contract I had to take out).

I called the cancellation dpt to cancel the contract, and the cancellation fee is R8.4k, which is just 1k less than me paying my monthly 600 for 16 more months.

I get that Vodacom is a business and needs to maximise profit, but to still charge me the full contract price for a device I no longer have is greedy.

Can't wait to leave this network.
