From capped to uncapped without any reason

In November/December 2014, I took three data contracts with Vodacom, at R 99 for 2 Gig per month. For almost 15 months, these contracts were capped at 2 gig, often running out of data before the end of the month and then on the first of the month, data was available again. I gave these data cards to family as gifts in order for them to stay connected via social media.

During June 2016, my Vodacom account was suspended and when queried I was informed that I had 16000 rands worth of data usage which was unpaid. R 6000 for one month and R 10 000 for the following month. When I queried this, as I had capped contracts, I was informed that this specific card had never been capped which was amusing because it had run out of data on previous months. Also, all of a sudden for two months the data limit was exceeded.

Vodacom was to look into the matter and I have just been informed that their inquiry has been completed and I have to pay the R 16 000 before my service will be renewed.

My question is this, how does a capped data card become uncapped after +- 15 months of use and who else has experienced this? I have heard that there is other people out there who has experienced this apparently because Vodacom performed some software upgrade or something, causing the cap being removed from some accounts.

Well I am done with contracts in SA. Everywhere the consumer turns to these days he is *****ed by the big corporations.
