From a speaker repair under warranty, to a R2200 cracked screen

On or around 16 April 2016, the speaker on my Samsung S4 failed. As it is still under warranty, my husband took it to our nearest Vodacom shop in the West Coast Mall in Vredenburg, Western Cape. He booked the phone in on or around 18 April 2016 under job number ***4. On the description of the phone’s condition, the shop assistant wrote:”Slight scratches on the screen protector”. The phone was working fine, except for the speaker. On 19 April 2016, he received an SMS notifying that job number ***4 has been received by Vodacom Repairs Cape Town Hub. On 11 May 2016, my husband received a call from the Vredenburg store that the phone is ready for collection. He went to the Vredenburg store on 13 May 2016 to collect my phone. When he arrived there, the assistant took the details and went to the back of the store to collect the phone. She was at the back, searching for the phone for about 5 minutes. When she finally arrived with the phone, she informed him that they replaced the mother-board, took it out of the bubble wrap and had a look at it, but did not switch it on. My husband said that it was quite odd, as it was just the speaker that was faulty. She asked my husband to wait for a moment, and she went back to the store room and spent about 7 minutes there. After finally arriving back to the front, she tried switching the phone on and said that it is not working, so, it has to be sent back. She booked it in again under a different Job number ***4. Again she wrote wrote:”Slight scratches on the screen protector”. My husband said that the phone never exchanged hands while he was in the store. On 18 May 2016 my husband received an SMS notifying that job number ***4 has been received by Vodacom Repairs Cape Town Hub. On 26 May 2016 the assistant from the Vredenburg store phoned my husband, informing him that the quote for the repair of the screen amounts to R 2200 and if he is going to accept or reject the quote. He then rep**** that she is contacting the incorrect person, as my phone only went in for a speaker repair and that the screen was not damaged. She then rep**** that it is the correct phone and that the screen is cracked. Whereby he rep**** that on both occasions that the phone was booked in, there was no issue with the screen being damaged (only slight scratches on the screen protector and not even a scratch on the screen itself). Later that day she sent a photo of the phone where the screen has two clear, enormous cracks on the left-hand top corner. The subject on the e-mail also quoted a different job number: ***9.
