********** sim swaps at Vodacom

After being a loyal Vodacom client for several years, I have now lost all trust in Vodacom after two ********** experiences.

In April 2016 my number stopped working. I went to a Vodashop where they did a sim swap. The sim swap did not work and I then went to the branch at Mall of the South. I was told that Vodacom stopped my service due to them detecting ********** activity on my number. Someone did an unauthorised sim swap and sent out R65000’s worth of bulk sms’s. This was not the end – the bill peaked at R160 000 – and that after they supposedly stopped the service.

It took four months to get my number activated again. During this period there were no communication from Vodacom’s side. I was left in the dark. Fortunately, Vodacom reversed these transactions and restored my services.

On 21 October when I went to the ATM, the machine took my card with a message to go to the enquiry counter. I managed to draw money with the new card the bank issued.

On 22 October I noticed that my cell phone was not working. When I phoned Vodacom enquiries, the agent asked me if I did a sim swap the previous day. I immediately told them about the previous incident and said that this was another unauthorised sim swap. The agent blocked the sim card.

On the Monday the ATM again took my card. I then discovered ********** activity of R27 000 on my bank account.

I again had no communication from Vodacom. When I phoned a month or two later, I was told that the person who investigated it, could not find anything wrong and that my query had been closed. How could there not be anything wrong with an unauthorised sim swap or with the ********** transactions on that sim card? Can anyone blame me for thinking that the person who investigated it, was not capable of doing the job or was perhaps even involved with these activities?

On top of this, Vodacom at the end of November tried to take a payment of over R3000 from my bank account. This for a service I had not use of since October. At the beginning of December an agent at Vodacom in Alberton told me that I could not do a sim swap because I owe them over R3000. I also have a Wi-Fi contract that has since stopped working as well. Probably because I refuse to pay for these ********** activities on my cell phone number.

I want Vodacom to cancel my contracts as they have breached their contracts with me. I would like to follow the footsteps of my son who has since left Vodacom and moved to another service provider. I have no trust in your company anymore. How do you manage to allow all these unauthorised sim swaps? Where is the Rica documentation that should accompany each sim swap transaction? I cannot do a sim swap without this documentation. How can someone else manage to get past these requirements unless of course if this is an inside job.
