********** Number Porting

Good day

Hope this finds you well.

On the 16th May I noticed that my Vodacom number was not working, there was no activity. I contacted Huawei because I thought it was a device issue and discovered that it was not. Long story short, I put a friends Vodacom simcard in my phone and it worked a 100% and yet my sim my not working on her device. I then contacted Vodacom through my work landline to query this and I was told my number does not exist and its being ported. I asked how could this happen as I didn't request for this port. I was given a number to the porting department and I was told that the port started on the 15th May in the evening.

I asked the consulted to urgent reverse the port as I had not authorised for my number to be ported to MTN. She called MTN and I was told that they managed to stop the porting, I had to switch off my phone for 2 hours. In the mean time - I called my bank and requested that they de-activate my number from receiving incontact and any other bank related sensitive information.

I consider myself one of the very few that acted immediately in solving this problem - many South Africans end up being de*****ed without even knowing. I would like to find out from Vodacom how and why my number was in the process of being ported. What security questions were asked? and how can you educate consumers who are on pre-paid to take caution against these **********?

The next morning, after reversing my number from being ported, I received 2 calls from Truworths and Identity. I was told that I had done an online application, which I immediately declined and told the consultants that this was a ********** transaction. I further contacted Transunion and put triggers on my Id number to get alerts should anyone try to open accounts on my name and as you know this is not free. I had to pay R799.00 for this annual service which I hope is enough for my peace of mind.

I am very sad that I have to write this complaint because I have been with Vodacom for over 10 years.

Kind regards Thoko Dlamini
