********** ACTIVITY ON A CLOSED ACCOUNT IS BEING IGNORED BY VODACOM

I cancelled my Vodacom contract in mid April 2016 and I have not had any dealings with Vodacom since this time. I then noticed in May 2017 that various, large amounts of money had been debited from my personal bank account, by Vodacom, over a period of 3 months.

I contacted the Vodacom Subscriber Connection Department, who advised me that 2 cell phone contracts had been opened in my name of which I have no knowledge.

It was explained to me that the accounts had been running off of a credited amount, which had run out and I was now being charged for the monthly installments pertaining to the 2 contracts. I was then told that the accounts would be placed on hold, pending further investigation of this matter. I submitted a full affidavit with all supporting documentation.

2 weeks later I received an email stating that "no ********** activity was detected", with no further information. I sent a further 2 emails requesting an explanation or at the very least the legal documentation pertaining to these contracts (which I am legally permitted to do)- to date I have not received a reply to these requests.

1 week later I once again made a call to Vodacom in hopes of getting some answers. I was transferred to 4 different departments, after explaining the entire problem each time, and was ultimately instructed to call the "***** Department" directly. After a full week of attempting to get through on the numbers provided, I was then told that there was a third number / contract opened on my name but that all contracts would be cancelled and a full refund paid into my account within 7 days.

It has since been approximately 1 month and I have still not received any refund but have instead been receiving up to 4 automated calls per day, demanding that I pay over R1 000 to Vodacom.

I have been as patient as possible, considering that I have done everything that was required of me but I have finally reached the end of my rope. I think it is pathetic that Vodacom are taking advantage of customers and I am considering this as theft at this point. Vodacom avoids sending me any proof of these accounts, yet continues to hold back money that should rightfully be returned to me as promised!

My complaints and queries seem to fall on deaf ears, however perhaps submitting a formal, public complaint will have a better reaction. I definitely do not regret cancelling my contract with Vodacom and will not be recommending them to anybody in future.
