Formal Complaint Summary: Ongoing Service Disruption and Unjustified Downgrade

I am writing to consolidate my formal complaint regarding Vodacom’s negligent handling of my account, which has resulted in prolonged service disruption, unauthorized account changes, and financial strain.

Timeline of Events and Actions Taken:

25 October 2025, 11:18 – Full payment made to Vodacom with immediate request for service reactivation. Despite proactive follow-up, services remained inactive for over 3 hours.

Later that day – Consultant Nokwanda informed me that my account had been downgraded to prepaid without my consent or prior notice. This is a clear violation of my consumer rights under the Consumer Protection Act.

26 October 2025 – Follow-up sent after 24 hours of no resolution. Services still inactive. Vodacom responded with a generic message, no action taken.

27 October 2025 – Third escalation sent after 48 hours of unresolved service. Expressed frustration over lack of transparency and urgency. Reiterated request for reactivation, explanation, apology, and compensation.

28 October 2025 – Vodacom claimed via phone that the account was reinstated. However, no formal confirmation or resolution was provided.

29 October 2025 – Final follow-up sent. Services still inactive. No compensation or apology received. My children were forced to use additional data for schoolwork due to Vodacom’s failure to restore services.

Impact and Concerns:

Financial Impact: I incurred additional costs due to Vodacom’s failure to restore services promptly. This includes extra data purchases and disrupted access to essential services.

Negligence: The unauthorized downgrade and lack of urgency in resolving a formal complaint reflect Vodacom’s disregard for customer satisfaction and basic service standards.

Violation of Rights: The absence of informed consent, timely resolution, and meaningful communication violates my rights as a consumer.

Brand Failure: Vodacom’s handling of this matter contradicts its stated values of trust, speed, and simplicity. Compared to competitors like MTN, Vodacom’s service and responsiveness are severely lacking.

Demands:

Immediate reactivation of my postpaid services.

Written explanation for the unauthorized downgrade.

Formal apology for the inconvenience and poor service.

Compensation for the financial and personal disruption caused.

If this matter is not resolved immediately, I will proceed to escalate it to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and the National Consumer Commission (NCC) for formal investigation.

Vodacom has demonstrated the worst resolution process I have ever experienced in the network industry. I demand urgent and meaningful action.

Continued Service Disruption and Demand for Compensation

To Whom It May Concern,

It has now been over a week since I first raised a formal complaint regarding the unjustified downgrade of my account and the failure to restore my internet services, despite full payment and multiple follow-ups. Vodacom has shown no urgency in resolving this matter.

While the company is quick to suspend accounts and demand payment, it shows no accountability when customers are left without access to essential services.

I have been unable to perform basic day-to-day tasks, and my children have been forced to use additional data to complete their schoolwork — a direct consequence of Vodacom’s negligence. This situation has caused financial strain, disrupted my household, and demonstrated Vodacom’s complete disregard for customer satisfaction. Your actions — or lack thereof — reflect a company more focused on revenue generation than upholding a standard service agreement or respecting consumer rights. I am formally demanding:
  • Immediate restoration of my internet services.
  • Compensation for the days my account has been inactive.
  • A formal apology for the inconvenience and poor service.
  • A written explanation for the unauthorized downgrade and delay.

Vodacom’s handling of this issue has been unacceptable and unprofessional. If this matter is not resolved immediately, I will proceed with escalation to ICASA and the National Consumer Commission. Sincerely,
VT

Vodacom Business service is very phethetic. From the 25 October 2025 till today my line is not active. Have been following up daily and the issue is not yet resolved. They are quick with suspension but regarding taking accountability and sorting my compensation for the days without service they are taking their own time. This is violation of basic human right

Dear Vodacom Team,

I acknowledge receipt of your latest response dated 12 November 2025. Unfortunately, your reply does not address the core issues raised in my formal complaint, nor does it provide any resolution.

To reiterate:

  • My account was unjustifiably downgraded without consent on 25 October 2025.
  • Despite full payment and multiple escalations, my services remained inactive for an extended period, causing significant financial and personal inconvenience.
  • No formal explanation, apology, or compensation has been provided to date.
Your statement that “contact was made and feedback provided” is inaccurate and dismissive. Feedback without resolution is not acceptable. This matter has now been outstanding for over two weeks, which is unreasonable and reflects a failure in service delivery and accountability. I am formally demanding the following actions within 48 hours:

  1. A written explanation for the unauthorized downgrade and prolonged disruption.
  2. A formal apology for the inconvenience caused.
  3. Compensation for the days my account was inactive and the additional costs incurred.

If these actions are not taken within the stipulated timeframe, I will escalate this matter to ICASA and the National Consumer Commission for formal investigation.

Please treat this as urgent and confirm in writing that my demands will be addressed
