Formal Complaint Regarding Cancelled 5G Router Order and Poor Customer Service

Dear Vodacom Customer Service,

I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding the handling of my recent 5G router order and the extremely poor customer experience that followed.

The order was scheduled for delivery on 27 May 2026. On the morning of the delivery date, the contracted courier company contacted me to notify me that the parcel was en route. Approximately two hours later, however, I received a message stating that the package could not be delivered because the address was allegedly invalid and that I could not be contacted.

This immediately raised concerns, as the information I supp**** during the online order process was accurate and complete. I then contacted the courier company directly to determine why the delivery had failed. During this discussion, it became apparent that the complex name on the delivery details was incorrect, despite the street address and contact number being completely correct and functional.

The courier company advised that they would first need Vodacom to correct the complex name before they could reschedule the delivery. Later that same day, I received a text message from Vodacom requesting that I contact them regarding the failed delivery.

On 28 May 2026, I contacted Vodacom and explained the situation in detail. After completing all required security verifications, the consultant proceeded to correct the complex name and unit number. I was then asked whether I would be available on 29 May 2026 to receive the router, to which I agreed.

However, just before 14h00 on 29 May 2026, after still receiving no courier communication or delivery notification, I again contacted Vodacom to enquire about the delivery status. At this point, I was informed for the first time that address amendments can take up to three days to process — information that was never communicated to me during the previous interaction.

What followed was even more shocking. I was informed that the item had already been returned and that the contract had been cancelled entirely. Naturally confused, I asked why the contract had been cancelled and whether any further action was required from my side to resolve the matter. I was then advised to visit a Vodacom branch and apply for a completely new contract.

I find this entire experience both bizarre and highly unprofessional. At no point did I refuse delivery, fail to cooperate, or provide incorrect contact details. Instead of resolving what was clearly a minor administrative issue, Vodacom chose to cancel the entire agreement without reasonable communication, escalation, or attempt to assist the customer.

Historically, my business has primarily been with MTN and Cell C. This was my first serious attempt at considering Vodacom after hearing positive feedback from friends and colleagues regarding your service standards.

Unfortunately, this experience has done the complete opposite and has left me deeply disappointed in what I expected to be a reputable and customer-focused organisation.

This entire process has been a senseless exercise that demonstrated poor communication, poor coordination between Vodacom and the courier company, and a complete lack of customer care.

At this point, I no longer have confidence in proceeding with Vodacom. Kindly consider this correspondence as a formal complaint regarding the handling of my order and the unacceptable customer experience I encountered.

Yours sincerely.

Adding insult to injury; you invoice and debit me for a product that I have not received! Note that I have screenshots showing all the correct information supp**** during the application process. The fact that your backend systems automatically change this to something else needs to be investigated! So much for your compliance with POPIA right? Go listen to the conversations I had with your contact centre. I'm definitely taking this further as this whole process has been insane. I also have the recordings, so let's get the regulators to decide who is in the right here...

Ages later we are back to square one with Vodacom's malfunction of systems, procedures and failed efforts to resolve or escalate this out of band or provide and facilitate an alternative solution to their problems and can I go as far to say incompetence. This is beyond comprehension and long overdue that some serious investigations goes into the reckless conduct of the entity and be exposed to all the relevant regulators on compliance aspects together with media recognition to the public of the of the flaws so a constructive effort can be put together to help them restore credibility on their operational systems, conduct, compliance and brand which I am sure stakeholders and shareholders will welcome openly.
