Final Review of Vodacom's Handling of My Insurance Claim
Dear HelloPeter,
I am reaching out to share the final review of my ongoing experience with Vodacom regarding my phone insurance and subsequent claim.
After I posted my complaint, I was contacted by one of Vodacom’s agents. I explained that I had requested the call recordings after they declined my insurance claim, as I believe they hold key information regarding my situation. The agent, however, informed me that I was not entitled to the recordings, stating that they are Vodacom’s private property. I explained that when I call Vodacom, I am informed that calls are recorded for quality and security purposes, and as per the Data Protection Act, I have the right to request the recordings, as they contain my personal information.
The agent continued to insist that the recordings were private property and stated that they would review the claim. I gave him seven days to resolve the matter. On day three, I received an email confirming that my claim had been approved.
While I am pleased that my claim was finally approved, I must highlight the severe frustration I have faced. I have been paying for this phone for three months, without receiving any data or airtime. To make matters worse, I was required to pay an excess fee to collect the phone. This feels like paying for a lay-by, as I have not had the phone for this entire period due to Vodacom’s mishandling of the situation.
It is important to note that the call recordings should belong to me, as they contain my personal data, including my ID number. I am entitled to access this information under the Data Protection Act.
Additionally, my monthly installment is R529 for three months, with no service, plus R566 for the excess fee, and R70 for a new SIM card. This totals R636 for three months of no service, and I have already paid R2,223 for the phone alone.
I am extremely dissatisfied with how this situation has been handled and expect a more thorough resolution.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely, Nobuhle Mtolo
