Fibre cancellation trauma

I am trying to cancel my fibre contract as the property I'm renting is being sold and I'm moving to an area which is not covered by the service. This was confirmed by Vodacom's service desk and technicians. Unfortunately I was not aware that I needed to check with Vodacom first as to which suburb or town they would like me to move to 🙄.

I explained this to the service agent and was informed that I would be liable for the remaining balance of the account as I was terminating the contract early.

The Fibre Broadband was installed on 04 December 2022, which would then mean an early cancellation fee of R1 059 x 12 months. The agent confirmed saying yes it was a good few thousand rand which would be due. She also mentioned that I chose the 24 month option....fine choice of words as the Vodacom Fibre General Information Terms And Conditions clearly states in clause 17: The Vodacom Fibre service is only available on a 24-month service contract.

I then asked whether it would be possible to transfer the account to the new owners of my current address. The answer was yes, but this is not a viable solution as I have no idea how long it will take for the house to be sold, and why would I want to do this, when it was perfectly in my rights to cancel this contract.

So I was left with the option of paying the remainder of the balance in a lumpsum, paying the remainder of the instalments until the end of the contract, or hopefully, maybe transferring the contract.

I subsequently read the terms and conditions of the fibre contract and found the following clause: If a Vodacom Fibre customer re-locates to a location with no Vodacom Fibre network, the customer will be able to cancel the Vodacom Fibre contract without penalties however the customer will be liable for any outstanding fees applicable to the CPE.

I then placed a second call to their so called customer service desk and requested to speak to the agent I dealt with in the first call. I was told she is not available and I went throught the protocols with the new agent. The subsequent conversation had me more confused than ever. What I got from the conversation was that the cancellation amounts to early termination and that I would be liable for cancellation costs. At some point, she dropped the call as the first agent had become available and was phoning me on my cellphone.

Who said what, I cannot clearly remember but I was told the following: *I can cancel the contract *There will be penalties but this mysterious amount is only known to the back office staff *If I cancel, the system will automatically send me an invoice with the remainder of the subscription costs due to early termination....there is no way to dispute this, nobody to call, it cannot be reversed inhouse, the system cannot distinguish between early termination and breaking the contract; or early termination in compliance with clause 74 of the contract.

So, what do I do now. I pay vodacom over R4000 a month for various services, been a customer for many years, but at this rate I want nothing more to do with them.

All I want is for my contract to be cancelled as per their terms and conditions but I'm stuck with 2 robot workers reading a script. Very very frustrating and disappointing.
