Fed Up

I have been fighting with Vodacom for over 3 months now. It has driven me to the point of cancelling everything and never considering them again for business or personal cellular use. I have been a customer with Vodacom for around 20 years and never have I had this level of poor service.

It started with an old contract (secondary) I had registered, for over 4 years Vodacom had been debiting my account. Having forgotten about it, I realised it needed to be cancelled and for the last 6 months I have been trying to cancel the account, only to find I keep getting debited. Eventually I called once a week to cancel the contract only to find my original request to cancel, was cancelled ????? This happened 4-5 times!!!!!! If you do the math Vodacom, this unused contract cost me over R20k, but in ignoring my requests to cancel, you have effectively ****** over R4k from me, not to mention this is definitely in breach of the consumer protection act. Regardless, all I wanted was to cancel the darn thing, without seeking any kind of refund. It has finally been cancelled, but what a load of work it was.

Next, I was due an upgrade on my primary contract way back in August 2016. Nobody called me, I had to seek it out for myself and calling 111, to remind you that I am due for an upgrade, can you please send it to me? This took me an amazing 5-6 times over a month to eventually get my upgrade sent to me..

Then, suddenly, last week my phone starts showing up as "Unkown Caller" and the same with all incoming calls. The next thing I know, I have no data and cannot make outbound calls because "My account has been suspended". In calling 111, I am told that my account has reached it's credit limit, in an environment where Vodacom has been debiting me over R1k every month for the last 4 years, and just less than that for the previous 16 years, without fail, without a bounced debit. The absolute cheek to be told this, threw me into an absolute rage with the poor support lady on the other end, who promptly changed the story to "a glitch" and I can simply reboot my phone.

Well, I did, and I can now get data and make calls again. However, I STILL have NO IDEA who is calling me, and noone answers my calls because I show up as "Unknown Caller". And get this, for the last 36 mins it has taken me to register and write this review, I have been holding on 111 to get support on this issue, and here I am ... still ... typing ... no ... answer,

Let me just say Vodacom, that you have disgusted me over the last couple of years. Your level of service has deteriorated beyond repair for my interest. I am a hair-trigger away from cancelling everything with you and heading right on over to MTN/CellC. I recall a time I highly respected Vodacom, as the lead programmer on the old Hellopeter.com, I had met many of your board members during the API implementation of your CRM integration, and I have to say, this is not the same company as back then... I am thouroughly disgusted.

Footnote, your signal in Edenvale (top of Terrace Rd) is **********. It's not Umkomaas, or some remote part of the Karoo, it's suburban Johannesburg, where I have visual line of sight of Primrose Hill and we are ON A HILL.... I have tried to report it to you on several occasions, but your techs don't exist, or don't do anything on callouts, or just Vodacom doesn't care. I am not bothered anymore.

Ah... you answered on 111, some 43 minutes on hold... great show guys... I almost 100% guarantee you this will not be a helpful phone call...

Best regards,
Thank you for your response and recourse,
Please know that while I accept your apology and appreciate your efforts to resolve my discontent, I am not seeking financial restitution so much as improved customer support and network stability.
Thank you for the discount and credit received, but this makes little difference to my cause for concern. I simply would appreciate uninterrupted service, and should an issue arise, acceptable support. It far too often occurs where one has to call customer support 5-6 times before anything is done.
I truly hope that Vodacom, in showing stronger network signal nation-wide, hasn't neglected to take customer care into consideration. While it may not be true, from the outside it feels like Vodacom is beginning to rather concern over numbers, than customer relationships and reputation.
I would love to see the original respect I once had for Vodacom restored. I used to boast to friends about Vodacom's seriousness in customer care as you were the only company at one time to base an entire customer care department around the Hellopeter public access system.
Insofar as using the new Hellopeter platform, it seems your seriousness is still present, albeit somewhat missing in your customer care call center. The problem is, I don't think many of your customers are aware of your dedication to this platform, and are only seeing your level of service in the call center.
I hope my input helps you improve this aspect, and look forward to better customer service all round.
Have a lovely weekend ahead,
Kindest Regards
