Extremely poor service by Vodacom Shop Menlyn
I entered in a Samsung S6 cell phone contract with Vodacom in May 2016 at the Menlyn Vodacom shop and upgraded to a Samsung S9 in May 2018 at the same store and had never any problems regarding any stop orders. I actually want to compliment Cherize for the excellent service she gave me with the upgrading to the S9. On 2 June 2018 my S6 got ****** and as it was not insured I took out an extra Huawei P20 Lite contract on 3 June at the same store by Michael and here my problems started. They didn’t have stock of the P20 Lite in black and he informed me that he will order one and it will be there on Wednesday 6 June. As I was borrowing a phone he will send a sms to my daughter on ********** 446 to confirm when the phone arrived. On Wednesday about 16:00 I called him as there was still no notification from him and he immediately said “I did send an a sms and I was about to call you because our stock came in and your phone was not delivered but it will definitely be here tomorrow. It then came out that he sent the sms to the number ********** 663 of which the sim swop sim card was still in his possession and still not active. So we arranged collection the following day. Thursday, 7 June I called him again during the afternoon as there was again no notification from him. He told me that their stock normally arrives after 3pm but I can come in as it definitely will be there. When I arrived there he said that the P20 Lites did arrive but were already allocated to other clients. He then went to the other Vodacom store in Menlyn and got hold of one there but because it takes 15 minutes to open their safe I had to sit there waiting for quite a while to get my phone. I wanted to do a sim swop as I wanted my old number back and as it was after 6 pm it could only be activated the next morning 8am. He then advised that I must only insert the new sim card at 8am and if it doesn’t work I must take it out and re insert it at 8:05. He will be at office at 8am and check that it is activated. Eventually the next morning nothing worked until about 10am and his excuse was that he couldn’t come in at work early as he first had to take his mother’s dog to the vet. Afterwards I had to call him again to ask about my Caller ID that’s not activated for which he said that he forgot about it and then rectified it. The main problem at this whole contract initiation was actually that he informed me that I have to pay immediately R63 for the sim swop that I did and that there is a R97 stop order that will go through against my bank account within 48 hours. Eventually a stop order in the amount of R217.86 was issued against my bank account on 14 June for which I didn’t make provision as I was under the impression that R97 will be issued for which I did make provision. I became only aware of the return of the unpaid stop order when Vodacom informed me about that on Sunday, 17 June. I was very upset about the whole issue and called this Menlyn Vodacom shop to find out why they issued a stop order for R217.86 instead of the R97 as I was informed by Michael. Because the return of this higher amount stop order that I was not aware of will negatively reflect on my credibility. I wanted to speak to the store manager but as this person was out for a while according to the sales consultant Marcus for answered the call I discussed the problem with him and he informed me that Michael apparently notified me only about the R97 connection fee but not about the pro rata fee for the month of June. He said that he will inform the store manager and they will come back to me the same day. Later as I saw that the store is soon going to close and they still didn’t come back to me I called in again and was told that the store manager is not in today and talked to the assistant manager (Zoe) who apparently was out to the bank when I called in the first time but this Marcus didn’t discuss anything with her. I explained to her my whole problem and she offered that she will e-mail me a letter confirming that the return of the stop order was a Vodacom error and not my fault. As I didn’t get any e-mail from her nor any phone call I went in to the store where I met this Michael. I confronted him that he only informed me about an amount of R97 that would be claimed from my bank account by stop order within 48 hours but then instead an amount of R217 was claimed by stop order after 6 days that was returned by my bank due to the fact that I have only made provision to cover the stop order of R97 because that was the only amount I was aware of. He immediately said no he did inform me that there would also be a pro rata percentage of the monthly instalment claimed and I even signed the clause about it in my contract. He showed me on the contract where the R97 connection fee was noted to be payable within 48 hours and on another page the clause that mentioned about the pro rata amount that would become payable but this clause doesn’t state when that would be payable so I was under the impression that it would be added to the first monthly payment at the end of June and at no stage he mentioned that this amount would be added to the R97 that is payable within 48 hours. He went on that he always make certain to mention this to the client and if the client indicates that they don’t have that amount available he wouldn’t close the contract and as I asked a lot of questions he even explained it to me very carefully. He even accused me of wasted 2 hours of his time to decide which phone to choose while with other clients it takes him 10 to 15 minutes to close a contract. And he works there for over a year and closed more than a thousand contracts and never had such a complaint and I am now the first person with such a complaint. I said to him listen if you mentioned to me that there is an extra pro rata percentage to be added to the R97 I would have asked how much so that I could make provision for that in my bank account. He then contradicted himself by saying he doesn’t know what that percentage will be and will never mention an amount because he used to do such a calculation but then had to many complaints that the amount that was claimed from the clients’ bank account was higher than what he said so now he doesn’t give an amount but do inform the client about the pro rata percentage that will be claimed by stop order. I insisted that if I was made aware of an extra amount to be added to the R97 I would have insisted to get even just a ball park figure that I have to make provision for in my bank account because I know what the consequences are to your credibility if you cause stop orders returned by your bank. I stated to him and state it now again that I am not prepared to pay the R100 penalty by Vodacom for the returned stop order as it was NOT my fault as I was only informed of a stop order of R97 within 48 hours and NOT about any other amount added to that. If there is any decency in Vodacom they would also reimburse me for the R25 that my bank charged me for the returned stop order THAT WAS NOT MY FAULT and issue me with a letter stating that this returned stop order was not my fault but a Vodacom error . It was due to an *********** sales consultant that is forced to work over weekends and late hours while he is not in the mood for these efforts and then try to convince the client that he was right and did a proper job and the client wrong and lying.
