Exploitation of the elderly

My mother was contacted by Ravi from Vodacom where her contract was upgraded by him to a data contract which included a tablet.

My poor mom does not even fully understand English and agreed to something she cannot even use. Her phone is still one of the old Nokia's with polyphonic ringtones, only used for phone calls and the odd sms.

Not being able to cancel this mistake was the least of our problems... I understand the fact that Vodacom was reluctant to cancel due to the 14 days which had already elapsed, but where does the consumer protection act come in? According to Vodacom store assitants it is 30days, in which case we tried to cancel it in time!

After explaining that she did not know what she signed up for and only realising it once her phone was completely cut off, we still received a very cold shoulder with no-one willing to assist or even just listen.

My mother is 68 years old, does not even know how to use a computer, let alone whatsapp or facebook! All she could make out was that she would be paying less per month.

I am so upset, why does nobody even attempt to assist you? Being dissatisfied with a product is your own problem?
