On Saturday I lost my phone. Since I was at the end of my contract, I opted to look at my options, and discovered Telkom has a much better deal than Vodacoms overpriced packages.

On Monday, not having a phone, I went to the store to try speak to a retention person. The store could not help me, and referred me to the Retention Department, who referred me to the store. The store kindly phoned the Retention Department. Zama, a supervisor in the Retention department, assured me that the only way to resolve the issue was to cancel my application and reapply in-store, but to contact her once I was there to explain the matter to the store manager. I returned to the store, and we tried to make contact with Zama but we were told that she was on lunch/off sick/in the bathroom/in a managers meeting. The next retention supervisor assured me that applying through the retention department was the best approach. I phoned a little later to follow up, and was told by a Keke that the best way to get the issue resolved was to cancel the order and go to the store to apply there.

Fast forward through a throbbing headache and a series of angry late-afternoon phonecalls:

This morning I received a phonecall from Vodacom to confirm that the Confirmation Team will phone me to confirm my upgrade and then send a confirmation email to confirm that the confirmation process has been completed. Time for some headache tablets.

A time was arranged to phone me: 12:43, which was surprisingly specific. Unfortunately, the Confirmation team did not phone me to confirm the confirmation, and thus I can confirm that the confirmation email did not arrive. I escalated again to Alida from the Customer Care Team, who assured me that the Confirmation Team would phone me between 13:30 and 14:30, to confirm my application. Sadly, the Confirmation Team let Alida down, because they have still not yet confirmed my application.

I don't have a cellphone at the moment. The only contact I have is sitting next to my neighbours phone, hoping in vain that someone will call, but sadly, like the Adele song, no-one ever does. Even recording my travails on HelloPeter seems to be a waste of time.

So sad.
