DO NOT REPAIR YOUR IPHONE AT ANY VODACOM REPAIR STORES
I went to get my iphone 8+ repaired as due to an accident I shattered my screen. I was helped by one of the assistants when I was handing my phone in.
Before I handed my phone in I asked clearly if the repair technicians use original or generic parts as I know Apple does not trade in phones with generic parts should you want to exercise that option and I was assured they use original parts. I was unable to go the repair via Apple route as I am insured by CellSure administered bu Vodacom and therefore Apple cannot claim from them for repairs.
A week later I fetched my phone on the 4th of Feb and everything looked fine. However when I was home I noticed that my screen did not look the same as my friend’s who has the same phone as the colouring on my phone was washed out whereas her’s hald a walmer tone. I also noticed that my front camera was no longer HD as before and the colour tone of my photographs was not that of an iPhone; my keyboard was also not working well as I have difficulty pressing some letters on the screen. Noticing this I went to the Vodacom Repair shop in Greenacres to query what was going on, this was done on the 6th of Feb. When I was assisted they looked at the phones and then when queried the technician said they used generic parts that is why it was not the same.
Firstly I was assured original parts are used, secondly the generic screen messed my camera software up and my insurance was quoted R4980 for the repair.
When I voiced out I was dissatisfied and I was not happy as I was not told they do not use original parts and had I been informed when I asked I was NOT going to repair my phone with them; they said the only option is to replace the phone however at an excess of R8000 that must be paid by me.
I voiced out that the error was not made by me therefore I should not bare the consequences so they said that they will escalate the matter to the head office of Vodacom and I will be updated via a phone call for my options within 24 hours.
By Friday the 8th February I was not called AT ALL. On Monday the 11th February I called Vodacom Repairs in Greenacres to query as to why I had not been called and they said they forgot to escalate the manner and get back to me. They called on Wednesday the 13th of Feb and had no solutions instead they were worried as to who said they would use original parts. I told them it was the assistant whom I handed my phone in and that assistant is on the job card they said they will investigate and get back to me within 48 hours.
It is now the 21st of February and I am still using a faulty phone and I have not been called by them again since the 13th of February. I have not been given any solutions and I am very upset as I am continuing to pay for a phone that is not up to par with what I had bought. I went to Vodacom as they were the only option provided to me for repairing via the insurance that was recommended by Vodacom.
I do not know what to now do.
