Disresepecting consultants Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

I was booked for an event by the Diversity and Inclusion Advisor and People Champion - LGBTQ+ Employee Network Chair. I began extensive work on the project which included a telephonic meeting. I continuously asked for a contract to secure payment and I was ignored and told they don't do contracts. When booking me the contact person told me to drop my rate, I obliged and the quote was accepted. Then a few days later I was informed that the rate would be further dropped. I found that unprofessional and rude. I had toa accept as I gave my word and had declined another job. I found it odd as I had signed contracts with them in the past. I went on in good faith. The event was canceled at the last minute. My contact person said I should send a cancellation invoice as they would cover those costs. I sent it and still waiting. I cannot get a concrete answer as to when the bill will be settled. I am just told to be patient. The ordeal has cost me a lot of anxiety and I cannot get back the other contracts that I declined.
