Disappointing Experience with Vodacom: A Long-term Customer's Perspective

In March 2023, I received a phone call from a Vodacom consultant, who initially came across as friendly and trustworthy. The consultant discussed restructuring my plan to include more data, assuring me it wasn't an upgrade and I'd retain my eligibility for future upgrades. Trusting their word, I agreed to what I believed was simply a plan restructuring.

However, later in the year, when I intended to upgrade, I was informed that I was ineligible due to what they termed as an "upgrade" to two Hero phones – a change I was neither seeking nor informed about properly. This revelation was a stark contrast to the consultant's earlier reassurances and the "free phones" offer now appeared as a deceptive tactic.

Feeling misled, I lodged a complaint in August at a Vodacom store, only to be met with unhelpful responses and no access to the original call recording. The staff's indication of similar complaints from other customers further raised my concerns about this practice.

Recently, a follow-up call from Vodacom merely reiterated that I had accepted the terms, ignoring the context of how these terms were agreed upon under misleading information. Their refusal to comment on the ethicality of the situation was telling.

As a loyal customer of 13 years, with my entire family using Vodacom services, this experience has left a bitter taste. I am deeply disappointed and feel violated by how a trusted company can so blatantly disregard customer trust and ethical practices.

Vodacom's vision of "connecting for a better future" now seems ironic to me, as it apparently comes with hidden conditions and ********* methods. This experience has not only eroded my trust in Vodacom but has also made me question their commitment to their customers. It's a disheartening realization that loyalty and ethics seem to hold little value in this scenario.
