Disappointed with Vodacom's lack of return policy

I'm a little disappointed with Vodacom's lack of return policy. I was looking to buy a Nokia G20 so I was calling Vodacom stores nearby. I found an enthusiastic agent over the phone and I asked of they had it in stock. He said "No", but he was super enthusiastic and seemed helpful as he told me what other phones they had (which I appreciated and welcomed). I explained to him that I was interested in a dual SIM device and then he told me about other devices. Eventually we talked about a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10, which sounded fantastic so I travelled from Midrand to Fourways mall. We did the processing and as I opened the device I realised it wasn't dual SIM. Because it was opened I was told there wouldn't be a way to return it because the person who sold it to me would have to pay for it. This seems extremely unfair to Vodacom employees especially since the phone wasn't written that it takes only one SIM outside. I love Vodacom, but this, this is unacceptable. I was adamant that I couldn't use the phone because it didn't meet my needs and I felt as though I was being strong armed into exchanging it for another phone I also didn't like, which was more expensive.... Which is super insensitive during times of a pandemic where most of us are careful about our spending.
