Disappointed and Unhappy with Vodacom Insurance Claim Handling
I recently submitted a claim which was rejected due to a clause in the policy. I contacted the Vodacom call centre and spoke to three different consultants at different times to query this clause, which I was not aware of.
One particular call left me especially unsettled, as the consultant asked whether I “could not read” the part in bold regarding the usage clause. I explained that this clause was not in any of the documents I had signed. She told me there was nothing further she could do as my claim had been declined.
I went back to the store where I purchased my phone in July 2023 and reviewed my contract. Nowhere in the documents I signed does it state that the Vodacom number must be the primary usage for the insured phone. Had I been aware of this clause, I would have either ensured Vodacom was the primary SIM or not taken the insurance at all.
This whole experience has left me bitterly disappointed, especially as I currently have two contracts with Vodacom and am due for an upgrade—which I am now seriously reconsidering.
I even attached all the documents I signed and initialled on the day of purchase, and requested they point out exactly where this clause is stated. I made it clear that if it is indeed present, I will apologise and accept the decline. If not, they should acknowledge their error. Despite my request, all I keep hearing from the call centre is that the “team leader is busy” and my case has been escalated.
All I am asking for is transparency—simply to see the terms and conditions. The lack of assistance and dismissive attitude I have received from Vodacom’s insurance team is unacceptable.
