Disappearing Data

It has come to my attention thar my data dissappears.I use to buy 500mb that use to last me 3 weeks and now suddenly 1gig lasts 10 days maximum.and I still use the same phone that I only switch data on I use and off when not in use.I hardly downloads nor updates unless I'm using free wi-fi in restaurants.can someone explain whats going on
