Deleted Number - Vodacom
After months and months of communicating with and trying to find solutions to my problems with Vodacom, they have deleted my number with no prior warning.
The events happened as follows: 1. January 2020 I went into a branch and requested a downgrade, since I started my own business and cashflow was more strained. They said a downgrade was not possible and were basically unwilling to help in any way and gave no solutions/possibilities whatsoever. 2. Since then, I could obviously not pay my account (as I clearly stated to them that I wouldn't be able to), when finally in May 2020 they threatened that my account be suspended. Only then did they downgrade my account from contract to prepaid. 3. By this time, I was still not able to pay my account, and with every contact made by telephone, I reiterated this (especially with it being during lockdown). I was completely transparent from the beginning, yet they would offer no help or understanding. 4. September 2020 I received a final letter of demand by email. I admit that I didn't respond to this letter, since I was too busy trying to get my business back up and running. [PS: on this letter there is an amount of "Capital Outstanding" that I have no knowledge of having whatsoever, so this will have to be disputed.] 5. Since I received the letter, there have been no communication from them to me, or vice versa. Yesterday, 19 October 2020, my number was deleted. Without any warning, and communications, any curtesy call, nothing. Phoning the call center for clarification on why my number stopped working, they were only rude and completely unhelpful. After not being helped by the call center agent, I drove to the nearest branch and was told that I need to phone the call center. Phoning the call center yet again, I became none the wiser, since they continue to be unhelpful, with no senior management or technical advisor or whatever title with some authority to take the call and help.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the number I've had since cellphones were introduced and the number I eventually built my business on. At this point, I do not care about the fact that I was not informed of the deletion, about debt collection or anything other than just GETTING THAT SPECIFIC NUMBER BACK. Is this such an impossible feat in the twenty first century?
Firstly, thank you for the automated reply to the public so it looks like you're saving face. And then of course the private reply directly after, with instructions to phone your legal team (who are apparently just as useless as your call center agents). You might as well post these supposedly private replies on the public forum for everyone to see your replies are basically just to placate. Well, I wil not be placated.
The conversation I had with your legal team agent was an utter waste of my time, since she couldn't utter any words other than "your number was permanently deleted" and "no, I cannot put you through to a supervisor". However, I was lucky enough to get a "I'll send an email to my supervisor and he'll get back to you during the course of the day". Now I'm not sure what she'll say in this email to her supervisor, since she didn't seem to understand the reason for my call.
Dear readers, please stay tuned for the next update after I hear from said supervisor.

I, on the other hand, sent an email to the legal team of Vodacom (as requested in the reply above). In the automated response on that email it is promised that Vodacom resolves all such queries within 3 working days. Well, it has now been 4 working days since that email was sent and not a peep. So I think, mmm... maybe they're just shy, so I phone the legal department again today. The talk with the agent was once again a complete waste of time. She could not give me any information...did not even know what "Capital" meant. After phoning the other legal line, the call, of course, dropped again. *Funny how the calls always drop as soon as I say who I am and why I'm phoning.*
It breaks my heart that normal, hardworking, tax paying citizens like myself have to fight for basic decency. Just decent customer service would be much appreciated. It is rather discouraging to know that if you do not have exceeding wealth or an important name, you will basically not be helped. You are not important enough. You are not worthy of our time. You, as our client, are on your own. Good luck. God speed. Please don't call again.
I am certain these messages go unread as well, so I've taken to see these more as journal entries to vent my frustrations to the ether. Well, dear diary, I don't feel to happy about Vodacom. My business is suffering. They don't give a damn about little old me. I think that's all for today, since once again, I am out of ideas. Perhaps my brain will come up with an exciting new plan later today. We'll see.
XOXO Pieter
