Default Listed on Compuscan Without My Consent

I telephonically cancelled a sim contract with Vodacom in August 2016. The sim was subsequently blocked so I could not use it which according to my understanding means its successfully cancelled. Little did I know that I was still being billed for that sim contract despite the fact that I had cancelled it and was not using it. I tried to apply for a cell phone contract in April 2017 and I was informed that I alrerady have a contract with Vodacom which is in arrears. I then went to Vodaworld to get more information on this 'contract'. The consultant who was helping me advised me that the contract had not been cancelled hence it was still billing. I then asked him to escalate the matter to people who can further investigate and resolve the issue. He logged an issue and I never got any correspondence on the progress of the matter or the outcome. Yesterday I tried to take up a temporary credit facility and I was informed that I have a default on my credit profile listed by Compuscan and when I called Compuscan, they told me that it was listed by Vodacom. This morning, 01 June 2017, I went to Vodaworld again and the consultant who was helping me advised that the contract had been cancelled and that the legal department will send me a settlement letter. This is very infuriating because Vodacom never informed me about the contract which was in arrears so I was not even aware that I supposedly owe them anything and worst of all they go on to list a default on my credit profile without even warning me. Now I have a bad name on my credit profile and this is preventing me from taking up any further credit. Vodacom needs to sort this out asap because I need a loan to pay for my studies by the end of June 2017.
