Deceived during upgrade

In October 2016 my mother upgraded her cellphone contract via Vodacom direct. As part as the upgrade she was allocated 100 free sms's and 500meg of data per month for 24 months. I was present when this was discussed over the phone. At that time there was a promotion of 5 gig data once off as well. Upon delivery of the device there was no sim card included which was also supposed to be free. When Vodacom was contacted my mother was advised to go and do a sim swop at her nearest store whereafter she had to email proof to Vodacom to receive a refund. When this was done no reply was received from Vodacom. After a month my mother had to inquire again, only to be told that they do not give refunds but will credit her account with the amount.

On the first of March 2017 my mother did not receive the allocated data on her phone, after numerous calls and complaints lodged, Vodacom simply responded today finally that the consultant never captured that the data was allocated for 24 months and it was only a 3 month promotion that my mother received of 1gig per month. Tracking of reference numbers also yielded same result. Surely there should be more to be done. My mother is a pensioner receiving only SASSA so she can't afford to pay for data extra. She specifically took the upgrade because it included data.

Vodacom should definitely improve customer service and their system if their consultants are able to make empty promises that they can just deny later on.
