So it turns out that Vodacom has been charging me monthly subscription fees for two "dummy numbers" (as per the customer care agent in their billing department), despite the fact that there are no signed contracts in place for these numbers. I was a loyal Vodacom subscriber for about 15 years, but decided to port out due to their exorbitant data rates. I ported both my contracts in 2017; one in August and the other in September. According to the agent at the Vodacom store at N1 City, all I needed to do to ensure a successful move from Vodacom was to simply supply my I-account details to Telkom (my new MNO) and that would be that. Telkom would initiate the port, and I was assured that (by the Vodacom agent) that my two Vodacom contracts would be cancelled during the porting process. Makes perfect sense, right? In November 2017, I noticed that I was still receiving invoices from Vodacom. When I queried this at a Vodacom branch, I was informed that it was "probably delayed billing". When I called their billing department, I was informed that I was assigned two "dummy numbers" during the porting process. These dummy numbers are the contracts for which I'm now being billed on a monthly basis.
So what they're saying is that: • Even though their staff, processes and systems were actively involved in removing my two legitimate contracts from their network, they decided to automatically issue me with two replacement contracts without my consent on knowledge • Even though the two new numbers were described as "dummy" (a.k.a. temporary for the duration of the porting process), the numbers are still active and considered to be my two new contracts • Even though I requested to leave their network, they took it upon themselves to give me another two contracts. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS LOGIC TO ME?!? • They are happy to bill me for an indefinite period for two new contracts, neither of which I was vetted for or signed! • Even though they automatically instated the two dummy contracts, I was never automatically (or otherwise) issued with SIM cards for these contracts, so I've had no way of benefiting from the contracts so generously assigned to me, at my own expense!!! • It was my responsibility to request a cancellation of the two dummy numbers/contracts, despite not requesting them in the first place or knowing about their existence!
I've demanded a refund but was told to read the fine print. Surely, none of this is acceptable?!? I'm appalled and ashamed to admit my previous affiliation with this "reputable" company. It took me a very long time to decide to leave the Vodacom network; now my biggest regret is that I didn’t do it much sooner.
