Data Usage and bad service

I upgraded my phone and contract on 17 May 2016 at about 17h00.

My phone was switched on to insert the new sim card and then switched off so that it could charge for 16 - 19 hours. On 18 May at 21h29, I decided to access the My Vodacom App to check my current balances....would you believe the shock that I had when I saw that my bill was R1816.

I contacted Vodacom Customer Care and they advised me that I need to phone back the next morning, as they could not assist me with account queries that late.

When I phoned on 19 May 2016, I was told that the balance of my account was not the same as I was seeing on the My Vodacom App. But that it seems as if this balance is due to data usage. Well, I was just gobsmacked, as I was not using any data, as the only thing that I had done on the phone was the smartswitch earlier the morning on 18 May 2016.

When I requested that there is a further investigation into this issue, I was told that I need to go to a Vodacom Shop and report it there as well, so that this issue may be investigated.

I reported this issue to the Vodacom Shop in Nelspruit (Ferreira Str) and I was then told that this data usage which had racked up the horrific bill of R1855....(yes that is correct, in 2 hours it went from R1816 to R1855) was due to the fact that the handset's automatic updates were not turned off and that "they" (staff at Ferreira Str Vodacom shop) would have turned it off for me if I had upgraded my contract there in stead of at Vodacom Shop Riverside!!!

In 24 hours R1855 was CHARGED on "out of bundle" data rates.... NO WARNING, NO SMS.

That would have been a nice courtesy if only someone at Vodacom Shop Riverside had told me!!

Now I need to know what Vodacom will do about this issue, as a solution that both parties (myself and Vodacom) agree to, needs to be found.

Could someone please contact me? My email is ***
