Data Theft
On 24/12/2019 I went into a Vodacom store to arrange for my update on my data contract. Today when I started to work I found that I could not log on to the internet, which meant I could not send or receive any email or do any filing on SARS. This means that I cannot work, as I am 68 and already work 365 days a year just to make ends meet, this was a big problem. My business relies on me being able to file on SARS and emails are the main way that my clients communicate with me. When I phoned the customer care line the first time the agent just said that the shop should have told me that when you upgrade Vodacom will remove all remaining data that you have the day before the upgrade takes place, therefore you will not have any data on the last day. She said I should take it up with the shop. I phoned the shop and they assured me that they were not aware of any rule where the remaining data of a client gets taken a day before the end of the month. They did confirm that my data that was remaining should have been removed on 31/12/2019 at 23:59, they said they would look into the matter. Later I phoned again to find out if they were able to do anything about the matter just to find that the staff member had already left to go home. So I phoned Customer care again and the person I spoke to tried to help me, she contacted the upgrades department but came back with a message from them that if I upgraded at a shop my data gets removed a day before the end of the month. I told her that I still had about 13 GB remaining the previous afternoon and that I needed to do an update to a program that would take about 8GB of data and that I had intended to do it today while everything was less busy. She returned my call and let me know that they have loaded 990MB of data on my account that would expire tonight at 23:59. I cannot see how Vodacom can expect a business to run without data when in fact I had paid my account up to the end of December. Even though I appreciate the fact that the customer care agent tried to get me back online, 990MB does not make up for the 13GB that was just taken a day early or the day of work that was mostly lost. The program that needs updating cannot be updated as I cannot use the data that will be loaded tomorrow because it will be needed to do work the whole of January and because of the upgrade no data will come over from the previous month. Is Vodacom trying to penalize us when we upgrade at one of the stores? The reason I switched over to using the store for my upgrades is because the last time I tried to do it online they got the details completely wrong and the delivery nearly went back, I needed to fetch the parcel myself from the couriers as they would not deliver. The general answer I get from the Vodacom staff is that my data will be loaded tomorrow, wait! It is obvious that nobody considers the fact that if I do not work a day I am not able to make enough to get through another month.
