I requested roaming and was told to sms TRAVEL to the number 31050. I was then notified via sms that the word was incorrect. I called again and was told no I should use the word TRAVELON. I then received another sms to advise that this was incorrect. Agan I called and was told that this service is only for preaid customers :-( What a waste of time.

Fourth time lucky, I was told my roamig was on.

I then travelled to Indonesia and was VERY CAREFUL not to use my cell phone as I did not want any high bills.

I only used it when I could log onto the establishments Wifi.

Whilst abroad I was NOT notified of any high charges being incurred. I arrived back in SA 19/10

Yesterday 24/10 15h02 I received an sms to notify me of the unusually high data charges that have been detected to the amount of R7772.41

My cell phone acount has never exceeded R1100. So if Vodacom was so concerned about the high usage of data why not contact me when the amount had doubled, why wait till it was 7x the usual amount?

I then duly called the number I was provided with. What a nightmare, holding on, no one coming back to you etc.

Finally I was asked if I switched my cellular data off. No, I did not. I do not travel overseas much and as such would assume that one would be told to do so.

I am in the car hire industry and when asked about crossing borders etc, I provide all the information so that an informed decisions can be made, but no, not Vodacom.

As mentioned I do not travel overseas much and am not a tech savy person. Whilst overseas I kept checking my data and yesterday still had 845.54 MB of data available.

I have logged the issue with Vodacom but was told that I should get a reponse by the 6th of December (really?)

I have in the itnerim instructed Vodacom not to deduct the data amount in dispute.

Does Vodacom rely on their clients ignorance to ensure their montly billing fees are met? Surely it is their reponsibilyto to ensure that their clients are adequately informed?

I enquired about their Terms and Conditions to which the agent confirmed that non had been sent.
