I took out a contract with Vodacom in Cresta which included the insurance option, when I had an issue with my screen not working they advised that my warranty was not valid as it had a crack at the back of the phone which had happened 2 months before the screen stopped working, but seeing as I had insurance I agreed that it should just go through the insurance and be repaired, I was informed almost a month later that my insurance was not valid and that I would have to pay for the costs.

I believe that seeing as I had signed a contract for insurance as I did not want the phone without insurance, the store should have upheld its end of this deal as I would be penalized if I had just decided to stop paying my contract.

I had gone to the store and they admitted they made an error with my application and that the contract does indicate insurance was supposed to be included, but they are saying that as they hadn’t deducted the insurance premium they did not have to pay for repairs, the reason it was not deducted was due to their error and not a problem from my side, I had even agreed that they could backdate all insurance payments up to that point.

Vodacom in Cresta needs to either pay for repairs to my phone or cancel my contract with them and refund me the installments for the phone ever since it has been in their possession. If I as the customer had not made payment this would be what was expected of me as I had signed a contract so why does Vodacom not have to adhere to the same standard. Very disappointed and have reported this to the national consumer commission
