In 2015 I had taken a 24 month Vodacom contract which came with a laptop and a gig of data which I receive every month. The value of the contract is R 505 which is deducted monthly from my bank account.

Now comes the time for cancellation of a contract that has come to an end all I am given is grief by VODACOM. When I called in I was asked the contract details, I must admit that I did not know the sim number which I clearly stated to the operator. I then asked to provide my I.D no. which was accepted for verification and access to my account. After this I was referred to another operator by the name of Andile who again asked for my account details who I provided with similar information as above. The info again was accepted and she was able to access my account similarly to the first operator. I was told that further verification should be done and for this I would be asked a number of questions, some would be relevant and some irrelevant to my account. Five questions were asked and I correctly answered four out of five. I apparently could not give the correct answer to the fifth question which was basically confirmation of the address that I registered with them. Because I had moved 3 times in the last 2 years and therefor was not sure which address they wanted, and I gave them all those I remembered including the current one. .

Now I was informed that they could not cancel the contract as they could not verify my account because of just one incorrect answer. This is the company that deducts from my account every month but cannot verify my account. When I voiced my displeasure regarding this issue I was referred to Team leader, a lady by the name of Kgomotso who further re-iterated that their system will not allow me to cancel this contract. During our conversation she told me to hold the line I am not sure what the reason for this was. She eventually dropped my call without coming back to me or resolving my issue.

I called again and spoke to Dimakatso to whom I relayed what had happed, again I gave her my I.D number. which she used to verify and access my account in the same way as was done before. She asked me to hold the line and a few seconds later she came back and told me that she could not assist me as I was blocked and should call at some other time. I asked her to provide me with their complaints department contact which she did.

I called that number and an answering machine requested that I enter an avr number which I have no idea what it is. There was no person on the other side to listen to my query and eventually the call was dropped again.

Why is it that when one takes a contract he is never informed that he will have to answer such questions. 80% of the questions answered correctly is good by any measure. I honestly don’t need this all I want is to cancel a contract which has come to end. Why does VODACOM deliberately makes this process complicated. I no longer need their services and all I got was a bad service and a refusal by VODACOM to terminate the contract. Please help……
