Contract Cancellation

My phone was ****** a few weeks ago and since then I have been trying to cancel my top up contract with Vodacom because it is pointless to have two sim cards and one phone. To my surprise, they are making me pay for the future airtime value (not yet used) and the most annoying thing of it all I will not get the airtime I am paying for. Can someone please explain to me why is it that I must pay for airtime I have not yet used. I am happy to pay to settle the ****** handset and pay an early cancellation fee, but to ask for the full value of future airtime subscription and not load that airtime on my number is ridiculous. What is Vodacom's physical / item loss in airtime? surely this is against consumer protection law. The consultant's explanation was that I can do a swim swap on the sim card. But what is the point of that when I do not have a phone to use it on? I have had to get a new contract with another service provider. All I want to do is pay off the contract so I am not paying for something I not using.
