Contract breach

Called into Vodacom to state that I am being contacted by a 3rd party company selling a Vodacom offering.

In my contract and thier customer care centre confirmed that I selected to NOT recieve any calls , This is however not the first time that my details has been either given out or shared.

How is it right that a subsidary of Vodacom is allowed to contact a person , when you have selected to not recieve any marketing and that one`s personal information is given out?

Does the POPI act not cover us ?

I proceeded to raise a ticket and more than week now has passed and not 1 call or sms regarding the issue has come my way.

Dear Client

I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please note that your details are registered on a national credit database, which can be accessed by any company when doing credit checks.

It is possible that the companies in question have accessed your contact details from this database.

The Direct Marketing Association of South Africa (DMASA) has launched multiplatform functionality for its Opt Out Register via SMS, Internet and call centre which allows consumers to remove their details from mailing lists used by the association?s members to promote goods and services.

You may use any of the following options to add your details to the “Don’t Contact Me” list - previously known as the Mail Preference Service (MPS):

SMS DMA followed by your ID number (this is crucial) to 34385.

Call the call centre on 0861 DMA DMA (362 362)

Log onto www.dmasa.org to access the DMA’s opt out register

Kind regards

Vodacom Consumer Website Team
