Continued Debiting of Bank Account Despite Cancelling Cell-Phone Account
I have emigrated 2 years ago and have attempted to cancel my contract, however needed to remove a number that was linked to my account before cancelling the contract. This task had been completed and was confirmed by a Vodacom customer care agent 17-May-2022 - the same agent indicated that my contract would expire and to provide a months notice and provided the early cancellations email address. I sent an email to the cancellations team 17-May-2022, 24-May-2022 and again 26-Jun-2022. I did not receive a single reply regarding the cancellation of the account and as a result I stopped the debit order from coming off of my account. I noticed I was receiving an invoice a few months later for a the contract that I have attempted to cancel.
I reached out to customer care 13-Sep-2022 to discuss further, who then indicated that the number that should have been removed was not and that there is an amount in arrears and therefore I cannot cancel the account. I provided the service agent with the emails of confirmation that the number had been removed as well as the three attempts I made to cancel my existing account. The agent is yet to reply. Today, Vodacom debited the outstanding amount from my account.
Due to this ongoing dispute I expect that the debit order to resolved and the account cancelled as per my earlier requests. Failing which I will contact the ombudsman and register a complaint with the small claims court.
I cannot be reached via the mobile number on account and need to be contacted via email due to residing outside of RSA.
