Claiming from deceased of 10+ year customer
I have not received a reply from Vodacom regarding the closing of my deceased mother's account. She was a customer for 10+ years. In her final years she wished to have a month to month contract using her own phone. She was not paying off any phones and was happy with what she had. She was told this was not possible and had to sign a 2 year contract (no phone included). She has now deceased with the contract expiring next year. The account is not in arrears, Vodacom is not losing out because of any phone not paid for, yet the response I got was that the legal department will be claiming from the estate. I find this disgusting that Vodacom want to claim money for services not provided to a deceased. The estate is so small that this would make it insolvent which would slow down winding things up further. I have asked Vodacom for any amounts outstanding so that I may be able to settle them in my own accord. When my father passed away and we had to cancel his account, we were told that when there is a deceased that was a customer for so long and the account is not in arrears, Vodacom close the account without claiming. Is Vodacom that desperate for cash now that they claw from the deceased? Keep in mind that the account was paying for services only, no devices. She was a customer for over 10 years, what costs does Vodacom realistically plan to recover that they haven't already over the 10+ year period. Any customer acquisition costs have long been recovered and no more services are to be provided. Seriously, catch a wake up before more people realise how heartless you all are.
