Charges after "winning free" welcome tone

After playing the "Shake Everyday" of Vodacom, I 'won' a 'free' welcome tone for a period. Today I received the following SMS:

Your free summer Welcome Tone is about to expire in 2 days, you will be charged @ R2/month. Dial *117*987# for more great songs. Unsubscribe dial 117800

How can a 'free prize' convert into a monthly obligation (you will be charged @ R2/month.)?

Tried to unsubscribe, however, the 117800 does not work.

Reviewer Update
On 31 December 2017 I once again received a SMS stating that the Song Dancing Again will be renewed for 30 days @ R3.00. To unsubscribe, they provide the number 117800 to be dialed - however, this number does not work. Vodacom needs to take responsibility for this as they provided this as a "gift" after playing the "Shake Everyday" . Although they committed to stop this, (see above feedback 1 November 2017), it did not stop. To all users, be careful when stuff is given free - somewhere someone will try to make money out of you, even big companies like Vodacom.
