Cant phone me back on the number THEY disconnected

I was in the process of converting my Vodacom contract (at the expiry date) to a prepaid sim. I phoned them a month in advance (as required by them) to do this. They offered me a new deal, and promised to call me back with the details. Still waiting for the call...

Fast forward three days later. I phoned them again to finish cancelling the contract. All went seemingly well. I was supposed to switch off my phone on 28 February, and the next day load some airtime to switch to prepaid. All well. Then today, I received no phone calls, no sms's....my number has been deactivated. Now, today is 9 February, NOT 28 February. When I needed to receive a One Time Pin from my bank, not possible. So no payments today. Phoned Vodacom and they apologized, promised the problem will be fixed in 2 hours. Now, 3 hours later still disconnected.

So, being very agitated by now I phoned again. The lady informs me the appropriate department is NOT customer care, but some other department that is closed. But promises to phone me back tomorrow morning on my number. The exact same number that is now disconnected, so no-one (she admits) can phone me on it. And her answer to this seemingly obvious problem: I should have an alternative number. So clearly we are not safe aligning to one service provider, but need a sim card from all the different service providers. As they say, hedge your bets!

Bottom line: Vodacom loves you on contracts, but do not try to move to prepaid. They will make you pay, literally and figuratively.

Reviewer Update

Dear Cassandra

Thank you for YOUR efficient handling of this matter. After spending 5 days without a cell number, your quick and efficient help was more than welcome.

I just need to add that no-one at the client service department (via 111), legal department, collections department or cancellations department was able to do anything more than make empty promises. So I am still slightly undecided whether I should base my image of the company on those utterly useless departments and people, or on one outstanding employee who can solve a problem efficiently (you in this case).

Thank you again!

Regards

Ricky
