Cancelled after 25 years as a Vodacom customer
I have been a loyal customer of Vodacom for 25 years, but my recent experience has left me extremely disappointed. In December 2023, I decided to renew my contract by contacting Vodacom. Little did I know that this would turn out to be a major mistake. It quickly became evident that Vodacom, who outsources upgrades to various service providers, was completely incapable of handling my contract renewal and delivering a new iPhone handset.
To my dismay, instead of simply renewing my existing contract and providing me with the new handset, Vodacom added on a data and minutes package to my current contract without overwriting the original deal or including the new handset. As a result, I found myself paying for both my existing contract on my old handset and the additional, unnecessary data and minutes that I had no use for before the end of my current deal.
Seeking resolution, I contacted Vodacom's call center, only to be met with a series of *********** agents who seemed unable to assist me effectively. They even went so far as to refer me to "management," which turned out to be no better. Despite my best efforts over the course of four months, with no resolution in sight, I finally reached my breaking point and decided to cancel the contract that I had faithfully maintained with Vodacom since 1998.
This level of indifference and the inability to resolve a relatively straightforward matter was truly astonishing to me. As a long-time businessman and customer, I can't help but wonder about the lost opportunities Vodacom is willing to suffer through their complete lack of concern. Over the last 25 years, I can only imagine how much money I have spent with them.
I am adamant about receiving a refund for the unwanted and unnecessary services that your call center agent added to my bill. I took the prescribed route of emailing <***>, as stated in the Vodacom Code of Conduct for escalations. Unfortunately, I was met with disappointment yet again when I was referred to a robot named Tobi, who was just as incapable of resolving this matter as the human agents on the phone.
I even attempted to seek assistance from ICASA, but have received no response whatsoever. At this point, I am left with the hope that HelloPeter, a consumer advocacy platform, will be able to bring attention to my concerns and finally deliver some resolution. I sincerely hope that my loyalty and hard-earned money will not be disregarded any longer.
