Cancellation of Vodacom contract

I was due for a new cellphone upgrade on 7 January 2017, but decided to not take the upgrade and rather move to a new cell phone provider who will honour our contract by not increasing the costs of my contract after I entered into a 2 year contract with them. I therefore moved to a new service provider in November 2016.

I have tried, since early December 2016, to cancel my contract with Vodacom. I phoned various times and was transferred from the call centre, to the collections, to the cancellations, to the customer care, to the accounts department and back to the collections department and told them I want to cancel my contract. On 29/12/2016 at 08:34 I spoke to Sarah at the Cancellations Department and she confirmed that my contract has been cancelled and no amount is due for January 2017.

On 11 January 2017 I received a statement of account reflecting an amount due to Vodacom. I tried for 31 and again 48 minutes to sort out my account and nobody was able to assist. I was transferred from the call centre, to the collections, to the cancellations, to the customer care, to the accounts department and back to the collections department. On the 16 February 2017 I started to send E-mails to the ********** department. They required more information as they were unable to trace my account on their system. On 24 February 2017 Jabulile from the retentions.cancellations department told me that my contract on expires in April 2017 and not in January 2017 and provided me with a premature cancellation quotation for the amount of R478,49 which was paid on 27 February 2017. I provided them with proof of payment and cancellation of the contract was confirmed by Jabulile. I received a statement of account amounting to R478,49 in March 2017 which I queried and requested reversal. No amount was debited against my bank account after I queried the account. No further statements of accounts were received from Vodacom until today, on 22 June 2017 when I receive a final demand for the amount of R857,17 due to Vodacom. I immediately contact the number provided on the account on Tel: ********** and spoke to Selano who informed me he is unable to assist as I need to speak to the retentions.cancellations department. I have send another e-mail to the retentions.cancellations department in which I requested the correction of their accounts. Please note that it appears that one is unable to get hold of them telephonically if you do not have an existing Vodacom number.

I would appreciate your assistance to get this matter sorted as it appears that Vodacom makes it very difficult for customers to cancel their contracts. They also keep on billing customers for services which was in fact not rendered. I have a excellent track record and does not want to have any defaults against my name which influence my credit ratings.

My Vodacom customer account is: J ********** -5
