Cancellation of Contract done deviously.
It’s deeply disappointing to end a long-standing relationship with an institution I’ve trusted for years, only to discover deceptive practices during the contract termination process.
I had a cell phone contract with Vodacom that included two mobile devices—one for myself and one for my wife—under a single account and installment. The contract ended on 31 July, and I instructed Vodacom to cancel it in April and again in June. They confirmed the cancellation.
However, on 8 August, I was notified that my account was in arrears. This was surprising, as I’ve never missed a payment and believed the account was closed. When I called Vodacom’s support line (082135), the automated system confirmed I was in arrears on a cancelled contract.
After further investigation, an agent and team leader informed me that Vodacom had only cancelled one number and kept the second active—despite both being part of the same contract. I was never told I needed to cancel each number separately.
This oversight has now resulted in charges outside of my original contract, damaging my credit profile. I was actually calling Vodacom to inquire about new deals when I was blindsided by this issue.
Vodacom, this is unacceptable. I had one contract with two numbers—both should have been cancelled as requested. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
